FreeBeRI is a Jean Monnet (module) project funded by the European Union, which combines research, teaching and third-mission actions on the relationships between freedom of religion and freedom of expression and information. Its interdisciplinary team investigates conspiracy theories against/within religions as a severe threat to democratic processes, as well as European international politics in the field of protection of freedom of religion, conscience and belief (FoRB). FreeBeRI fosters the critical tools of “the historian’s craft” for recognizing, understanding, and fighting conspiracy theories feeding hate speeches.
The project avails itself of a scientific advisory board of international scholars who have a key role in the construction of the European Research Area in the field of religious studies. FreeBeRI’s actions are supported by the media partners Euractiv and Ceseu (https://euractiv.it/authors/cesue/).
